North Ferriby United 2 Ossett United 1
Jamie Forrester 58 Nicky Boshell 85
Ferriby were made to work hard for this win by a positive Ossett United. The visitors presses Ferriby from the start and were the more threatening team in the first-half
Ossett had most of the possession although good work by The Villagers’ defence and midfield limited Ossett to little more than half-chances. The closest to a goal came on the stroke of half-time when Lewis Exall produced a super save to deny former Ferriby striker Tom Corner.
The closest Ferriby came to a goal had been in the 14th minute when James Nichols’ run down the right saw Luke Lofts hit a first time shot just over the bar.
The second-half opened with Adam Priestley’s well hit penalty being superbly saved by Exall diving full-length to his left to parry the shot.
That save lifted Ferriby and they started to press forward with more urgency. Ferriby took the lead after 58 minutes. Jamie Forrester got his 25-yard free-kick up and over the wall and the ball went in low at the near post. A superb piece of skill!
Ossett wasted some half-chances and paid the price after 83 minutes. Luke Lofts broke down the left. His shot was parried by keeper Leigh Overton and Alex Knox forced the ball home at the far ost.
Ossett did get the goal they deserved two minutes later when Nick Boshell scored from 18 yards.
So, a good and gutsy performance from Ferriby. It will stand the players in good stead for the coming season. They know that you sometimes need to change your game plan during a game and that there are days when you just have to graft out a result.
Bolder commented afterwards,
“Ossett pressed us hard in the first-half and we couldn’t really play in the way we had hoped. They made it difficult for us to move the ball around and play it out from the back.
“We had to change things round at half-time and alter our system. We started to take the game to them more and forced them back far more than in the first-half. Lewis’s penalty save was probably the turning-point in the game. They had had chances and missed them and perhaps they felt that a goal was never coming.
“We took a degree of control after that. Jamie’s free-kick was superbly hit to give us the lead. We created a few chances after that. The second goal from Alex clinched it.
“We defended well throughout the game. Perhaps we rode our luck on a couple of occasions but the players put in a great shift in testing conditions.”
