NFU v Barrow (VCN)

Vanarama Conference North
North Ferriby United  v Barrow
Saturday 20th  September; KO 3.00 pm

Ferriby entertain big-spending Barrow at the Eon Visual Media Stadium on  Saturday. The Villagers have gone four games without a win and will be looking to gain a good result against Barrow.

Barrow are the big spenders in the division and this has made them many people’s favourites to take the title. Money does not guarantee success but it certainly gives teams an edge in player recruitment.

Barrow signed Anthony Wilson from Ferriby in the summer but the striker is injured and is highly unlikely to be for to face The Villagers

Despite recent results, Ferriby remain seventh in the Vanarama Conference North. Goals have been hard to come by but everybody needs to remember that the close-season saw the departure of two strikers who were capable of scoring around 50 goals a season between them. Ferriby signed good replacements in Tom Denton and Tom Corner but it always takes time for all players to settle to new formations and routines when new players are signed.

Ferriby were pleased with a point at Colwyn Bay last Saturday. It was a game they could have won but very nearly lost. It was a tale of two keepers. Bay’s Josh Ollerenshaw pulled=off a number of good saves and in the dying seconds Adam Nicklin made an absolutely amazing save from a shot that everybody in the ground thought was heading for the top corner.

Ferriby manager Billy Heath Heath commented,  “It will be a very tough game against Barrow. We just need that little bit of good fortune in front of goal. We’re creating plenty of chances but finding opposing keepers in outstanding form or hitting the woodwork.”

Danny Emerton could return following injury.  Jamie Yates has gone to Matlock Town on a month’s loan. Dean Lisles is unlikely to play having injured himself in the pre-match warm-up at Colwyn Bay

NFU’s probable squad : Adam Nicklin, Antoni Pecora, Josh Wilde, Nathan Peat, Danny Hone Matt Wilson, Gregg Anderson, Mark Gray, Adam Bolder, Liam King, Jon D’Laryea, Russell Fry,  Nathan Jarman, Tom Denton, Tom Corner, Danny Emerton, Dan Clayton, Louis Bruce
