North Ferriby United 0 Rotherham United 2
Ryan Williams 45+2; Jake Picton (og) 76
Ferriby produced a good performance against League One Rotherham. The Millers were made to work hard for their victory.
Ferriby’s midfield and defence played well throughout the game with some strong tackling. The villagers were often first to the ball. Once again, Alberto and Joe Pugh caused problems for the Rotherham defence in the first-half. Joel Ambalu and Pugh did the same in the second.
The first chance of the game fell to Alberto who headed wide Callum Rzonca’s cross.
Rotherham replied through Ryan Williams who produced a good save from Ross Durrant. Anthony Forde then shaved the post with a cross-shot. Durrant then parried a shot from Kuda Muskwe.
Alberto shot wide as Ferriby came back in to the game. The villagers were awarded a penalty after 28 minutes when Jake Picton was fouled by Aimen Belaid. Simon Russell’s penalty looked to be going in to the corner of the net but Lewis Price managed to push it away as he dived full-length.
With half-time approaching, Forde dipped a shot over the bar before taking the lead in added time A neat move ended Ryan Williams scoring with a well-placed low shot. It was a little harsh on Ferriby that they went in a goal behind but once again, it was about taking chances.
Ferriby almost equalised after 50 minutes when Ambalu wriggled past a couple of defenders to shoot wide from 18 yards.
In terms of chances, the rest of the half was largely Rotherham’s. Depite the efforts of Ambalu and Pugh up front, The villagers struggled to create clear chances.
For all their pressure, Rotherham did not really force Durrant in to a save as Ferriby forced them to shoot from distance.
The Millers’ second goal had a touch of fortune about it. Reece McGinley’s shot was probably covered by Durrant but it deflected off Picton and wrong-footed the keeper and the ball ended up in the net.
Durrant produced the save of the game after 82 minutes when he produced a point-blank reaction stop from Akeel Francis’s header.
Ferriby manager Steve Housham commented,
“It was another good work-out for us, especially fitness-wise. We conceded two sloppy goals if I’m being honest but I’m not going to criticise individuals for that.
“The players have worked hard. We’ve got one game left before the League starts. I’ll be doing my homework on Curzon. I’m fairly sure of the likely starting 16.”
