Evostik Northern Premier League Premier Division
Matlock Town 0 North Ferriby United 2
A controlled team performance saw Ferriby take all three points at Matlock town and go three points clear at the top of the table. This was The Villagers 1th away win in the League this season. The win puts pressure on Hednesford who have to play at play-off chasing Buxton on Wednesday
The Villagers controlled the game from start to finish and gave Matlock very few opportunities to threaten Ferriby keeper Adam Nicklin.
On a typically hard April pitch, Ferriby played their favourite passing game and constantly threatened the Matlock goal. Ferriby continued to build patiently rather than just playing long balls in a bid to pressure Matlock.
Ferriby' s first opportunity came after four minutes. Russ Fry's corner caused mayhem in the Matlock penalty area but the ball would not fall to a Ferriby player and it was finally cleared.
Matlock replied and Paul Foot did well to clear Lee Featherstone's low cross.
Former Matlock player Liam King was prominent in many of Ferriby's attacks and went close to scoring on a number of occasions during the first-half.
Danny Clarke saw a goal-bound shot blocked by a defender. Anthony Wilson saw a couple of headers go wide. Ryan Kendall was unlucky with a turn and shot from 25 yards that dipped just over the bar. Shortly after he had a header saved by Matlock Keeper Nick Buxton..
Matlock had only one serious attempt in the first-half but Lewis McMahon's shot was well-blocked by Nathan Peat
The half finished with Gregg Anderson hammering a35-yard shot narrowly wide with Buxton well beaten.
The second-half followed a largely similar pattern. Wilson saw a shot blocked before Matlock wasted a glorious opportunity to take the lead. A long ball somehow reached McMahon but Nicklin was alert to the danger and saved at the forward's feet. The home side never really threatened again.
Ferriby deservedly took the lead after 58 minutes. Good work between Wilson, Kendall and Ryan Williams set-up King to score from 15 yards with a powerful low angled cross-shot.
King and Kendall both went close before Ferriby sealed the win after 71 minutes. Williams fed Kendall who turned and fired home from 15 yards.
Anderson went close again but his header was cleared at the post by Lavelle White.
Ferriby manager Billy Heath was delighted with the win. "We controlled the game against aside who have had some good results in recent weeks. We are still in the driving seat. As I've said before,, we will concentrate on our own games and performances and not worry about what the others are doing."
