This was a battling performance by Ferriby against a skilful Farsley Celtic side. The home side never really looked comfortable until their third goal 12 minutes from time.

The Villagers gave ass good as they got throughout the game. Farsley had the greater possession throughout the game and carried more attacking threat than Ferriby. However, Ferriby gave a determined performance in defence and were generally well-supported by the midfield. Consequently, Farsley were often frustrated and wasted good all through the game.

James Nichols almost put Ferriby ahead after 5 minutes when he lobbed home keeper Kyle Trenerry only for a defender to clear.

Farsley responded with a couple of blockd efforts before taking the lead after 17 minutes. Jack Smith conceded a penalty when he pushed Dave Syers and Ben Atkinson sent Lewis Exall the wrong way from the spot. Two minutes later, Ferriby failed to clear a ball in their area and it was finally hit home by James Spencer.

Will Hayhurst, Chris Atkinson and Paul walker constantly pushed Farsley forward but they created few clear-cut chances as crosses were cleared or the home side was forced to shoot from distance.

The second-half saw Ferriby frustrate Farsley and they had far fewer attempts at goal than in the first-half. Once again, efforts were blocked or off-target,

Jake Martindale almost pulled one back for Ferriby after 64minutes but Trenerry held the ball over his head.

Spencer clinched the game for Farsley after 78 minutes when he latched on to a long ball to fire past Exall.

A minute later Nathan Cartman completed the scoring when he converted a low Paul Walker cross.

Ben Leyland performed well for Ferriby in midfield both in a defensive and attacking role. Niah Payne battled up-front but both he and James Nichols rarely had a lot of good quality ball to play with.

Ferriby could hold their heads high with their effort in this game. Farsley probably were expecting a somewhat easier game than they got and will be relievd at the final score-line.

Manager Joe Lamplough commented,

“The lads worked hard but we were beaten by a good side who made the most of their chances. It’s frustrating that we are conceding goals in similar ways in our games and that happened again tonight.

“it says much for the players that it was only in the final 10 minutes that Farsley really secured the game with their last two goals.

“We created a few half-chances and that has to be a plus for us.”
