FA Cup 2nd Round Qualifying
Cleethorpes Town v North Ferriby United
Saturday 27th September; KO 3.00 pm
Ferriby make the short trip to Northern Counties East Premier Division side Cleethorpes Town on Saturday in the FA Cup 2nd Round Qualifying. It will be the first time that the two clubs have met.
Cleethorpes have made good progress over the last few seasons. They won the Lincolnshire League in 2012 to gain promotion to the NCEL. Last season they won the NCEL Division One title to gain promotion to the Premier Division. They have won three and lost two of their five league games. In the last round of the FA Cup they knocked-out Evostik Division One team Carlton Town.
Ferriby will start the game as favourites but they will not be underestimating Cleethorpes. The Villagers have been on the wrong end of too many FA Cup shocks over the years.
Ferriby have drawn their last two games following three straight defeats. The performance against barrow last Saturday saw The Villagers play some of their best football of the season and in some ways they were unfortunate to not take all three points. It is a performance that will have boosted the players’ confidence.
Ferriby have been playing some good football in recent weeks but they have lacked that little bit of luck that all teams need on occasions.
Ferriby manager Billy Heath Heath commented, “We will obviously start the game as favourites but that means nothing. Cleethorpes will undoubtedly raise their game and we are going to have to produce a good performance to win.
The FA Cup is a competition that we want to do well in but, as always, we will take it one game at a time. We will not be underestimating Cleethorpes on Saturday.”
Heath should have a full squad to choose from. Skipper Matt Wilson returns following a one game suspension. Tom Nicholson replaces Antoni Pecora as the second goalkeeper. Pecora has moved abroad to work.
NFU’s probable squad : Adam Nicklin, Tom Nicholson, Josh Wilde, Nathan Peat, Danny Hone Matt Wilson, Gregg Anderson, Mark Gray, Adam Bolder, Liam King, Jon D’Laryea, Russell Fry, Nathan Jarman, Tom Denton, Tom Corner, Danny Emerton, Dan Clayton, Louis Bruce, Dean Lisles
Admission to the game is £5 full price and £2 for concessions. There is a large free car park at the ground.
If a replay is required it will be at Ferriby on Tuesday 30th September with a 7.45 kick-off. Admission will be £6 and £3. Everybody must pay.
