North Ferriby United
Robbie Tinkler 48
This defeat saw Ferriby drop to the bottom of the table and makes it almost impossible for them to avoid relegation.
A six hour coach trip due to delays caused by accidents saw Ferriby arrive just 40 minutes before kick-off. It was hardly the pre-match preparation The Villagers needed.
Despite the travel difficulties, Ferriby had the better of the opening 10 minutes with Robbie Tinkler forcing a save from Will Puddy. Sutton responded with a shot from Maxime Biamou who drew a diving save from Rory Watson.
The game changed after 14 minutes when Kevin Amankwaah found Roarie Deacon who scored with a first time shot. Both players had been allowed too much space.
Sutton gradually began to take control. They used the pitch to their advantage despite p;aying against a strong wind. Their passing was neat and accurate and they showed good ball control.
Ferriby could not utilise the wind effectively and found the bounce of the ball on the artificial surface difficult to judge.
Reece Thompson drew two saves from Puddy before Sutton doubled their lead after 23 minutes. Ferriby failed to clear a free-kick properly and the ball reached skipper Jamie Collins who scored.
The goal lifted Sutton even more and they virtually sealed the game 34 minutes . Nicky Bailey found Adam Coombes whose cross gave Biamou a simple tap-in.
The Villagers were struggling to get a foothold in the game despite working hard and putting some promising moves together.
Ferriby began the second-half in good style and Tinkler scored with a low shot after cutting in from the left.
This gave some hope to The Villagers. Thompson headed over when well-placed and Mark Gray headed straight to the keeper. The misses were crucial because not long after Sutton scored their fourth goal. Kieran Cdogan was played in and slid he ball past Watson. Once again, it seemed a rather soft goal to concede.
The final goal came on 83 minutes when Cadogan scored with a low shot through a crowded area
Injuries and suspensions meant that Kojo Kyei and George Bell from the club’s Academy side were named as substitutes and both got on as second=half substitutes.
Ferriby manager Steve Housham commented
“Once again, I couldn’t fault the players effort. We started each half well and Robbie’s goal just after half-time certainly lifted us. Unfortunately their fourth goal deflated us and we just could not back in to the game.”
