Vanarama Conference North
Stalybridge Celtic v North Ferriby United
Saturday 17th January 2015; KO 3.00 pm
Ferriby are in Vanarama Conference North action on Saturday when they visit Stalybridge Celtic.
Stalybridge were one of the pre-season favourites for a promotion challenge but it has not ereally worked out for the this season. They are now probably looking at just finishing the season as high as possible.
The Villagers are currently in 9th position in the Vanarama Conference North and are still handily placed to mount a serious challenge for a play-off spot. It is so tight in the top half of the division that gaining or dropping points can make a big difference to a side’s league position match on match.
Ferriby’s midweek draw against Brackley saw The Villagers move up one spot. Had they won, Ferriby would have moved up to seventh.
It will certainly be a tough game on Saturday as Stalybridge will be bubbling with confidence given their recent up-turn in form. Stalybridge are nine points behind Ferriby and had a poor start to the season. However they have now found some form and have won their last four games, including an away win over promotion hopefuls Solihull Moors. Over the festive period, Stalybridge slammed home 11 goals in their two games against Hyde.
Speaking after Tuesday’s game, Heath commented, “It was disappointing to drop two points. We had chances to win the game then conceded a soft equaliser. However, we are still in the promotion mix.”
Nathan Jarman is injured and Danny Emerton is still recovering from surgery so neither will play on Saturday. Tom Corner has been released and has joined Scarborough Athletic. Joining the Ferriby squad is Curtis Bateson, a young striker released by Scunthorpe United.
NFU’s probable squad : Adam Nicklin, Tom Nicholson, Louis Bruce, Josh Wilde, Nathan Peat, Mark Gray, Gregg Anderson, Danny Hone, Adam Bolder, Liam King, Jon D’Laryea, Russell Fry, Tom Denton, Ryan Kendall, Jason St Juste, Curtis Bateson, Danny Clarke
