Vanarama Conference North
North Ferriby United v Stockport County
Saturday 20 December 2014 ; KO 3.00 pm
Ferriby return to Vanarama Conference North action on Saturday when former Championship side Stockport County visit the Eon Visual Media Stadium.
The Villagers are currently 10th in the Vanarama Conference North whilst Stockport are in 6th place, just three points ahead of Ferriby.
Ferriby will be buoyant after Tuesday’s FA Trophy replay win at Boston United.
Manager Billy Heath commented, “It was a fantastic result. The players showed there mental toughness and resilience, especially in the second-half as Boston really came at us. We defended brilliantly and Adam Nicklin did not actually have to make a save in the second despite all Boston’s pressure. Our two goals were both very well-taken.”
Ferriby won at Stockport on the opening day of the season. County have won nine, drawn four and lost seven of their league games, scoring 31 goals and conceding 27. A win against Stockport will put The Villagers on the same points with a better goal difference and a game–in-hand.
Ferriby are playing some attractive football and creating plenty of scoring opportunities. The Villagers are currently six-points off a play-off spot but clinching one is obviously one of the club’s targets as the season is about to enter its second-half.
The play-offs are certainly not beyond The Villagers and they showed last season that they can compete in both the FA Trophy and challenge for promotion at the same time. The squad has the experience to do this again.
Looking towards Saturday’s game, Heath commented, “It will be another tough game but we obviously feel that we can win. It is very tight at the top half of the table and if we can put together a good run we can climb the table very quickly.”
Heath may have to be creative with his line-up as he has five players injured. Danny Emerton, Matt Wilson, Louis Bruce, Grant Black and Tom Corner are all injured. Jamie Yates is another doubt having gone off with a hamstring injury at Boston.
NFU’s probable squad : Adam Nicklin, Tom Nicholson, Josh Wilde, Nathan Peat, Danny Hone, Mark Gray, Gregg Anderson, Adam Bolder, Liam King, Jon D’Laryea, Russell Fry, Nathan Jarman, Tom Denton, Ryan Kendall, Jason St Juste, Jamie Yates
