North Ferriby United v Stafford Rangers
After the euphoria of reaching their first cup final at this level, Ferriby entertain Stafford Rangers at The Rapid solicitors Stadium on Saturday. Both clubs are currently have 46 points from 35 games and are now probably playing for pride and as high a league placing as possible.
It has been a strange up-and-down season for The Villagers. Early on they looked destined for a sustained relegation battle but the appointment of Billy Heath and Mark Carroll brought a change in fortune.
Results and performances have improved but as Heath said, "We need to become more consistent. We play well for perhaps three or four games then put in a couple of displays that are not as good." Heath and Carroll will now expect their players to focus on the remaining league fixtures and try to get a top ten finish.
Ferriby's Doodson Sport semi-final win against Kendal Town has earned Ferriby a final place against Walsall based side Rushall Olympic. The date and venue have yet to be fixed.
After the semi-final Heath commented, "I'm massively pleased with the win. It's a great result. It's good for the players and the club. We now need to go out and beat Rushall in the final. That will then be the first piece of silverware for the Club at this level."
Heath felt that Kendal probably had the better of the first half but Ferriby started the second half brightly and could have scored before Kendal's George Melling was sent off in the 50th minute for a second caution. The Villagers dominated the game after this and clinical finishing from Gary Bradshaw and Danny Clarke, twice, gave Ferriby their deserved victory.
Heath should have a full squad to select from. Steve Gardner made a quicker than expected return from injury to play against Kendal. Lee Morris and Ben Hunter are available again after being cup-tied in midweek.
Probable Ferriby Squad: Adam Nicklin, Steve Wilson, Steve GardnerNathan Peat, Paul Foot, James Williams, Sam Denton, Kevin Larvin, Gregg Anderson, Chris Bolder, Russell Fry, Gary Bradshaw, Lee Morris, Ben Hunter, Timothy Taylor, Danny Clarke, Tom Richardson, Wayne Brooksby
