FA Trophy 2nd Qualifying Round
North Ferriby United v Salford City
Ferriby return to FA Trophy action on Saturday when the entertain Evostik Division One North side Salford City. You need a long memory to remember the only time the clubs have met before. That was in August 1992 when an early goal from Mark Tennison gave The Villagers victory at Salfod's Moor Lane ground in an FA Cup tie.
Ferriby Manager Billy Heath is well aware of the importance of Saturday's match, "It is a big game in a prestigious competition and it is also financially important to the club. Hopefully a good run in the Trophy will increase people's interest in the club."
Ferriby will obviously start as favourites against Salford but Heath and Assistant Manager will take nothing for granted. They are both aware that Ferriby have frequently come unstuck against lower division opponents in cup competitions.
Salford are in mid-table with a playing record this season is similar to Ferriby's. They come in to Saturday's match on the back of a 2-1 midweek victory at Wakefield.
Saturday's victory at Kendal Town was the result of a good all-round team performance. The 3-2 scoreline did not really do justice to the way that Ferriby controlled most of the match. For Heath the match was "a good mixture of quality football and rolling-up our sleeves. It was a difficult surface to play on and the rain all through the second-half added to the problems.. Kendal came at us for the first 20 minutes but after that we matched them then gained control."
Heath looks likely to have a virtually full squad to choose from. The only doubt is Kevin Larvin who may still be a week away from returning to the squad following injury. Gary Bradshaw returns following his one match suspension.
Possible Ferriby Squad: Steve Wilson, Adam Nicklin, James Williams, Ben Morley, Nathan Peat, Paul Foot, Greg Wright, Sam Denton, Peter Davidson, Paul Harsley, Russell Fry, Gary Bradshaw, Alex Davidson, Danny Clarke, Luke Thompson, Wayne Brooksby
