FA TROPHY HOLDERS 2015 & NATIONAL LEAGUE NORTH PLAY-OFF CHAMPIONS 2016

NFU v Hull City Tigers

Pre-season Friendly (Billy Bly Memorial Trophy)
North Ferriby United  2    Hull City Tigers  0
Scorers: Hull City: Greg Olley 38; Gregg Luer 48
 Attendance:1473

This was an entertaining game especially in the first-half. Hull fielded their Development team against a Ferriby side that contained a number of triallists.

Both sides went close early-on  Ferriby’s Ryan Kendall drew a save from keeper Will Mannion then  Connor Oliver fired narrowly wide of the post . Greg Luer latched on to a defensive error and raced towards the Ferriby goal. Keeper Rory Watson react quickly to come out and smother Luer’s  shot.

Both teams looked to get forward but chances were at a premium.  Ferriby’s mark gray headed wide at the far post. At the other end, Taron Hare did well to head a shot off-the line.

Kendall and Oliver went close for Ferriby and Ahmed Elmohamady shot wide of the Ferriby goal.

City took the lead after 38 minutes. Elmohamady’s cross from the right was knocked home at the near post by Greg Olley.

City clinched the game after 48 minutes. Luer capitalised a weak back-header to chip substitute keeper Craig Ellison.

The regular second-half substitutions by both teams disrupted the flow of the game and there were few meaningful goal attempts although Mark Gray went close twice for Ferriby.

Harvey Rodgers and Ben Hinchcliffe both headed wide for City.

Mark Gray went close twice in a minute for Ferriby but a goal was not going to come.

Elmohmamady was man-of-the-match despite being substituted on the hour. However, he was run close Oliver who produced some solid work in midfield for Ferriby.

Ferriby manager Steve Houshsm commented,
“The players have come back down to earth today after such a good performance on Tuesday. The standards Darryn and myself have talked about were not there today. We were a bit carried away after the Grimsby result.

“It’s disappointing. Our passing wasn’t there today. Hull were young and hungry and they competed better. Darren and myself learned a  lot today and we now need to see how the players react.”
