North Ferriby United v Gloucester City
The Skrill North
Saturday 17 August. Kick-off 3.00pm
A piece of history will be made on Saturday when Ferriby entertain Gloucester City in The Skrill North. The game is the first of four in 10 days as The Skrill North gets under way with a hectic start.
This will be The Villagers first game at Step 2 of the football pyramid. Ferriby are now in the top 160 of football clubs in England.
There is a buzz around the club as all those involved both on and off the pitch prepare for a season that breaks new ground for the club.
Gloucester, like most of this season’s opponents, are something of an unknown quantity. Some clubs will be first-time opponents for Ferriby whilst others will have been played on very few occasions.
Ferriby will be looking to maintain last season’s success but they will face a tough test of their credentials throughout the coming season. The Skrill North contains teams such as Altrincham, Bradford, Boston, Workington and Stockport who have a long history as senior non-league and/or football league sides.
The club will have a range of targets for the season. The first will be 45 points as this should mean that the club will not be relegated. Once that target has been achieved manager Billy Heath will be looking to secure enough points to finish in the top-half of the table or, hopefully, in a play-off position.
Heath said, “We are all looking forward to the season. We know it is going to be tough. At this level there are no easy games so we need to be consistent. Pre-season has gone really well. The players have worked hard in training sessions and performances in matches have been good.”
Heath’s squad is likely to consist of his most experience players. He has built a squad of talented players that provide competition for places in all areas of the field.
Selecting the starting eleven on Saturday will not be easy give the players’ performance in the pre-season games. The one thing that is certain is that Heath will select a side based on form and attitude and not on reputation.
NFU from: Adam Nicklin, Antoni Pecora, Dean Lisles, Paul Robson, Nathan Peat, Gregg Anderson, Jonathan D’Laryea, Matt Wilson, Liam King, Russell Fry, Danny Clarke, Ben Hunter, Jamie Yates, Ryan Kendall, Danny Hone, Nathan Jarman, Anthony Wilson, Tom Davie
Ferriby are away at Bradford Park Avenue on Monday. The game kicks-off at 7.45.
