FA Trophy Third qualifying Round replay
North Ferriby United v Corby Town
Corby Town make their first ever visit to the Rapid Solicitors Stadium on Tuesday for an FA Trophy Third Qualifying Round replay.
Ferriby gave a fine all-round team performance in the first match on Saturday and were well worth the draw. They were not over-awed by their Blue Square Bet Conference North Corby opponents whom they matched in all areas of the game.
Villagers' Manager Billy Heath said afterwards, !I thought it was probably a fair result in the end. Both sides had chances to win the game but I thought we had sneaked th win right at the end when Chris Bolder's shot hit the top of the netting! It was a good performance by the team and I'm obviously pleased by the result."
It was an entertaining game played in very windy conditions. The wind played a major part in Corby's goal but they were stunned on half time when Alex Davidson's 30 yard run down the right saw him move inside and fire an unstoppable drive past home keeper Chris McKenzie. Matt Rhead missed a couple of good chances for Corby and Mckenzie saved superbly from a Sam Denton 45 yard free-kick that was heading for the top corner.. In addition, Ferriby also hit the post.
The Trophy provides the opportunity to increase Ferriby's profile and offers the possibility of gaining some financial success. Admission prices for the replay are £9 (£5 concessions) and £1 for Juniors. As this is an FA cup competition everybody must pay.
The result continued Ferriby's record of draws against Conference North clubs in the last three seasons and will have helped to raise the team's profile.
Matty Plummer remains cup-tied for the FA Trophy. Adam Nicklin and Danny Clarke both have injuries sustained at Frickley that are likely to keep them out of the replay, Russell Fry received a head injury at Corby but may well be fit for Tuesday. Paul Harsley missed Saturday's match through illness and it remains to be seen whether or not he will have recovered in time. Ben Morley's injury was not as bad as feared and he played at Corby.
Probable Ferriby Squad: Steve Wilson, Rob Moy, James Williams, Kevin Larvin, Nathan Peat, Paul Foot, Sam Denton, Chris Bolder, Peter Davidson, Paul Harsley, Russell Fry, Gary Bradshaw, Alex Davidson, Danny Clarke, Luke Thompson, Wayne Brooksby, Sam Belcher
