FA TROPHY HOLDERS 2015 & NATIONAL LEAGUE NORTH PLAY-OFF CHAMPIONS 2016

NFU v Blyth Spartans (Evo Prem)

North Ferriby United v Blyth Spartans
Evostik Northern Premier League Premier Division
Tuesday 1 January 2013  KO 3.00 pm

League leaders Ferriby start the New Year at home to Blyth Spartans. The Villagers will be looking to maintain their Christmas form which saw them gain two away wins.

Blyth were relegated from the Blue Square Bet Conference North last season and have struggled to find some consistency this season. They are currently in a mid-table position but will no doubt provide Billy Heath's side with a stern physical test.

Heath was delighted with his side's five goal demolition of bottom club Eastwood Town on Saturday. He said, "It was a good all-round team performance. We had chances to finish them off earlier than we did and perhaps could have won by more."

Ferriby controlled the game against Eastwood for virtually the whole 90 minutes. Strikers Anthony Wilson and Ryan Kendall were a handful for the home defence throughout. The midfield was constantly pushing forward and the defence put in another solid performance. The goals were all well-crafted team efforts involving unselfish play to provide the scorers with clear opportunities.

Upcoming fixtures against struggling sides provide an opportunity for Ferriby to maintain their lead at the top of the table. Heath will certainly ensure hid side do not become complacent over the coming weeks.  "The key to playing struggling teams is to give them respect but still play your own game. If you don't respect your opponents you risk putting in a poor display. "

Heath continued, "It's a great feeling to start the New Year on top of the league but what really counts is where we are on the 27th of April, the last day of the season."

Ferriby will be hoping for a good New Year's Day crowd to kick start the new year.

Gregg Anderson is available again and Heath should have a full squad to choose from.

Ferriby squad: Adam Nicklin, Antoni Pecora, Steve Gardner, Steve Ridley, Gregg Anderson, Paul Foot, Dean Lisles, Mark Gray, Nathan Peat, Liam King, Russell Fry, Danny Clarke, Chris Bolder, Ryan Williams, Anthony Wilson, Ryan Kendall, Gary Bradshaw
