Evostik Northern Premier League Premier Division
North Ferriby United v Ashton United
Saturday 23 March 2013 KO 3.00 pm
Ferriby continue their promotion push with a tricky home fixture against Ashton United on Saturday.
Ashton are lying in 11th spot but still have an outside chance of making the play-offs. Their away form has been better than their home form and they have the Division's second-top scorer in Aaron Burns.
Last Saturday's win at second-placed Hednesford put Ferriby back in the driving seat. The Villagers are now nine points clear of Hednesford who have three games in hand.
AFC Fylde, Rushall Olympic and FC United of Manchester will not have given up hopes of the title so a tense finish is expected over the next six weeks. With at least another five teams still in contention for the four play-off spots teams will drop points as matches between promotion rivals happen each week.
The title could well depend not only on results but also on which team shows the greatest character and, maybe, have a little bit of luck with injuries, suspensions and decisions.
Ferriby reached the Final of the East Riding Senior Cup when they beat Bridlington Town on Wednesday. Billy Heath rang the changes for this game and only two of the players who started against Hednesford began against Bridlington.
Ferriby proved too strong for Bridlington and deserved their victory with two goals from Gary Bradshaw and one from Danny Clarke.
After the game Heath commented, " I'm pleased with the result and it's good to reach a cup final. We now have to re-focus on the league. It is another big game on Saturday and Ashton will be tough opponents. We will probably have to be patient and take our chances when they come."
Ferriby's have injury doubts with Steve Ridley (deadleg) and Ryan Williams (foot) both being injured against Bridlington. Midfielder Liam King should be fit to play. Loan-signing Rob Youhill will be added to the squad.
Possible Ferriby squad: Adam Nicklin; Gregg Anderson, Steve Gardner, Paul Robson, Paul Foot, Mark Gray, Nathan Peat, Liam King, Russell Fry, Danny Clarke, Chris Bolder, Ryan Williams, Anthony Wilson, Ryan Kendall, Gary Bradshaw, Steve Ridley, Rob Youhill, Oliver Banks, Antoni Pecora
Ferriby Striker Ryan Kendall has been nominated for The Northern Premier League 'Supporters Player of the Year'. Fans and followers of Ferriby can vote for Ryan at http://sgiz.mobi/s3/NPL-Fans-Player-of-the-Season
