North Ferriby United Bradford Park Avenue
NFU: Danny Hone 61; Anthony Wilson 74
Bradford: James Knowles 10
Ferriby moved back up to fourth with this win on a day when most of their rivals dropped points.
Ferriby controlled the game and should really have won by a greater margin. They were denied by a Bradford side that defended in numbers and gave little away in midfield.
The early pressure came from Ferriby. A Jamie Yates’ corner was volleyed wide by Gregg Anderson. Nathan Jarman fired a snap shot just wide then Anthony Wilson saw his header bounce into keeper john lamb’s hands.
However, it was the visitors who took the lead after 10 minutes when James Knowles rose unchallenged to head home Chris Howarth’s in-swinging free-kick.
Ferriby pressed forward continually after this. Their luck in front of goal was summed-up when Nathan Jarman’s goal-bound drive hit Danny Clarke and bounced clear.
Jamie Yates was a constant threat with his crosses from both open play and set pieces. Bradford keeper John Lamb had to punch one in-swinger off his own goal-line.
Nathan Jarman and Danny Hone both went close but Ferriby went in a goal down. . Lamb, again, had to punch another in-swinging corner off his line. On the stroke of half-time Lamb made a double save from Liam King and then Anthony Wilson.
Ferriby continued to dominate in the second-half. The half opened with Yates having a shot blocked Then Wilson had a shot blocked on the line by Adam Clayton.
Ferriby continued to be patient and constantly probed the Bradford defence. Wilson, Russell Fry; Jarman and Hone went close as The Villagers’ pressure mounted.
Bradford’s only real threat in the second-half came from an Alex Davidson free-kick that was saved by Adam Nicklin.
Ferriby’s persistence finally paid-off after 61 minutes. A Yates’ free-kick was met by Hone at the near post and his header found a way home
Continued pressure finally resulted in the winning goal after 74 minutes. Hone fed Liam King and his run and low cross from the left was hammered home by Anthony Wilson from close range.
Ferriby kept pushing forward and it took some fine defensive work from Bradford to prevent Ferriby increasing their lead.
Ferriby manager was delighted with the result, “It was a difficult game that we dominated. The players kept their patience and belief and we certainly deserved to win.
