North Ferriby United 1 Solihull Moors 3
Scorers: NFU: Russell Fry 66
Solihull: Omar Bogle 39p, 52; Darryl Knights 73
Solihull deserved to win in a game that was sometimes controversial. That said, Ferriby will feel that they could have had something from the game with a bit more luck on their side.
Moors opened more brightly and Ferriby keeper Adam Nicklin had to be alert to take ythe ball just of the in-rushing Ryan Beswick. Nicklin then reacted well to save a deflected shot that he could have not seen until the last moment.
Ferriby striker Nathan Jarman is having wretched luck at the moment and he saw a shot come back off the post with Solihull keeper Tony Breedon beaten. Breedon then saved from Danny Hone following a Louis Bruce throw-in.
Nicklin saved well as he came-out to block Ryan Beswick who perhaps should have scored.
Jarman saw a goal-bound shot deflected over and Gregg Anderson went close with a header.
However the opening goal fell to the visitors.after 39 minutes. Danny Hone tripped Reece Fleet.and Omar Bogle sent Nicklin the wrong way from the penalty spot.
Ferriby felt they should have a penalty when Liam King appeared to be brought down in the area but the officials deemed it was outside and the referee awarded only a free-kick
Ferriby started the second-half brightly Tom Denton and Nathan Jarman both going close. However a massive stroke of luck after 52 minutes saw Solihull double their lead. The ball ricochet off the referee into the path of Bogle who was left with a clear run on goal to place the ball past the advancing Nicklin. Ferriby were frustrated by the goal as it was the second time in 30 seconds that a Ferriby pass had hit the referee.
The goal lifted Solihull who then exerted pressure on Ferriby but it was the home side which scored next. Dan Clayton and Denton combined to set-up Russell fry to score with a cross-shot.
Ferriby piled-on the pressure looking for an equaliser but another controversial moment ended with Solihull scoring their third. Moors thought Nicklin should have been sent-off for a foul on Bogle outside the area but with Bogle having turned away from goal and with defenders coming in to cover the referee only cautioned the keeper. From the free-kick the ball was partially cleared to Darryl Knights who fired home through a crowd of players,
Hone was unlucky to see his header from a Fry free-kick bounce off the post and shortly afterward Breedon just managed to punch the ball off Tom Denton’s head.
Ferriby exerted a lot of pressure in the final 15 minutes but crosses into the are constantly evaded The Villagers’ attackers.
Ferriby manager Billy Heath commented, “We were poor in the first half but we did much better in the second. It was frustrating because we came close to scoring on a number of occasions,”
