Long trip to Bamber Bridge on Tuesday

Evo-stik Northern Premier League
Premier Division

Bamber Bridge  v  North Ferriby United
Tuesday 9 October  2018
Kick-off  7.45pm

Ferriby make the longish trip to Bamber Bridge on Tuesday evening. It will be the first league meeting between the clubs since April 2004, though they did meet in the FA Trophy in 2010.

Bamber Bridge are currently fourteenth in the table. They have won three and drawn two of their home games, scoring 15 goals and conceding five. This home record outlines the task awaiting The Villagers. Bamber go in to the game on the back of  a 1-2 away defeat at Whitby Town on Saturday. The main goal threat from Bamber are their twin strikers Alistair Waddecar and Brad Carsley who have fifteen goal between them this season.

Saturday’s home defeat to Stalybridge was Ferriby’s third in eight days. However, unlike the previous two games, the performance gives much cause for optimism. The Villagers were always in contention in an entertaining game and it took a 90th minute goal to win the game for the visitors. It was tough justice on Ferriby who really did deserve to take a point from the match.

Bolder had to re-juggle his defence shortly before kick-off due to skipper James Piercy’s thigh injury flaring-up during the warm-up. James Williamson moved to centre-back and Dan Norton slotted in at right-back. They both put in excellent in a back-four that looked like it had played together for a long time.

Bolder had told his players that the simple mistakes needed cutting out and his side responded well with very few errors. That is going to be needed at Bamber bridge on Tuesday.

Manager Chris Bolder was pleased with the overall performance but was clearly disappointed with the result,

“We looked a strong side today against another very strong side. We had some fantastic opportunities especially after we’d gone one-up and we then had two cleared off the line.

“We started the second-half well and had another couple of good opportunities.

“We looked an attacking threat today and that is a big positive. We are creating chances and are starting to convert them.

“The players now have to on Tuesday at Bamber Bridge.

“We’ll dust ourselves down for Tuesday. We have few enforced changes due to suspension and injury plus we have to see what lads can do about getting away from work as it’s a long trip during rush hour and we can’t leave it too late to get away.

“They are a tough and in-form side but we know we can be competitive in matches. We have to take Saturday’s performance to Bamber Bridge on Tuesday and build on it.”

As mentioned, Bolder will have to make changes on Tuesday. Ben Clappison and Jordan Harrison are suspended  and skipper James Piercy is highly doubtful due to his thigh injury. James Nichols is still an injury doubt.
