Lincoln United 0 North Ferriby United 2
Dan Clayton 6; Jon D’Laryea 48
This was a controlled and dominant performance by Ferriby in hot and humid conditions.
The Villagers exerted control in midfield throughout the game and the defence was rarely seriously threatened. Good movement down the wings created a number of opportunities and Ferriby could have won by a greater margin.
Ferriby almost took the lead after three minutes. Dean Lisles high pass was headed-on by Tom Denton to Adam Bolder who was unlucky to see his 18-yard drive rebound from the bar. The Villagers did open the scoring three minutes later. Bolder’s accurate 40-yard pass freed Dan Clayton on the left and he took the ball round Lincoln keeper Robert Peet before scoring from close range.
Peet did well to take a Jon D’Laryea cross off the head of the incoming Tom DentonBolder’s superb 40-yard cross-filed pass released Dan Clayton on the left allowing him to round keeper Robert Peet before scoring from close-range.
Despite their control in midfield, Ferriby created few clear scoring chances. Peet did well to tip over a bolder shot and shortly afterwards the keeper made a flying save from a Denton header.
Lincoln rarely threatened but Michael Jacklin was unfortunate to see his downward header from Danny Brooks’ corner bounce over the bar.
Ferriby manager Billy Heath made seven changes at half-time. The visitors clinched the game after 48 minutes when Jon D’Laryea picked-up the ball in midfield, took it forward and fired home a low shot from 18 yards.
Danny Hone was unlucky to not score when he headed a Danny Emerton corner against the post.
Tim Taylor and Matt Kingston each went close twice in the final 15 minutes
Ferriby’s control in midfield and a dominant defence limited Lincoln to just one blocked shot from George Asplin. Antoni Pecora did not actually have to make a save in the second-half.
Ferriby manager Billy Heath commented, “It was a good performance. We worked the players hard in training on Thursday and today they all produced good performances in testing conditions.
