Vanarama Conference North
Hyde FC 1 North Ferriby United 0
Connor Hughes 13
Ferriby may well be wondering how they lost this game at bottom club Hyde. However, the explanation is straightforward, The Villagers missed a string of good chances and conceded a sloppy goal to godown to a defeat that, in many ways, was undeserved.
Hyde threatened briefly in the first two minutes but Ferriby began to take control in midfield without really creating any serious threat on goal.
Somewhat against the run of play, Hyde scored the only goal of the game after 13 minutes. A misplaced pass from Josh Wilde found Hyde’s Connor Hughes who advanced a few yards before sliding the ball past Adam Nicklin.
Ferriby continued to dominate but it was 16 minutes before the first threat on goal with Tom denton heading wide.
The Villagers were playing the better football and Nathan Jarman saw a shot charged down on the edge of the area,
A brief spell saw Hyde exert some pressure and Grant Black cleared off the line from Adam Thurston. Immediately afterwards, Andreas Pachipis and Hughes fired weak shots at Nicklin.
Ferriby graduall regained control but offered only one real threat on goal. Jarman’s shot was blocked by a defender and from the rebound home keeper Connor Hunt saved from Denton. This was one of only two saves that Hunt had to make all game.
Denton headed over and the had a shot cleared off the line. The half ended in controversy. Liam King was brought down in the area by Matt Flynn as he was about to shoot. The officials decided the offence was outside and awarded a free-kick rather than a penalty. Bolder fired wide from the free-kick.
The second-half was nearly all Ferriby with Hyde limited to quick breaks which had little end-result. For all their territorial dominance, Ferriby did not force Hunt in to a save until deep in added time.
Hyde only had two off-target shots in the half but battled hard defensively to close-down Ferriby.
Good approach play saw a string of chances wasted. Adam Bolder, Jarman, twice, and Nathan St Juste all headed reasonable opportunities wide.
Jarman saw a shot charged down and Denton headed wide as Ferriby pressed for the equaliser. Danny Hone headed over before King hit a cross-shot wide.
It was the second minute of added time when St Juste managed to draw a desperate save from Hunt. That save was the end of The Villagers’ opportunities.
In the end, it was a frustrating afternoon for Ferriby ahead of next week’s FA Trophy time at home to Boston
Manager Billy Heath commented, “It was disappointing to lose. On the plus side, we created plenty of chances and probably should have won the game. “
