Hall Road Rangers 3 North Ferriby United 0
Thursday 6 July 2017
Ferriby manager used this first pre-season game as an opportunity to give 45 minutes to all his signed-on players and triallists with the exception of Curtis Bateson and Steve Brogan who were unavailable.
Simon Russell made his first appearance for over seven months and looked comfortable during his first-half spell. He commented,
“It’s good to get back on the pitch after seven months out. The knee held-up well and I’m looking forward to the season.”
A surprise on Ferriby’ s line-up was the return of the popular Russell Fry who took last season out of football. He looked in good condition and his touch has clearly not deserted him.
Ferriby have had only five training sessions and with so many new face so it was to be expected that this would be a rather disjointed performance.
Rangers stung The Villagers with a goal just 8 minutes. Ferriby keeper Ross Durrant made a great one-handed save to turn Danny Chambers’s shot for a corner, From Tom Bennett’s corner, James Piercey rose to head home.
Both sides had chances as the half continued but neither goalkeeper was really tested.
The second-half was largely similar to the first with chances missed at each end. Rangers doubled their lead after 71 minutes when Josh Batty hit a first time volley in to the bottom corner of the net.
The third Rangers’ goal came in the final minute with Batty heading home a corner.
Whilst it is game time that matters, Ferriby manager Steve Housham will have been a little disappointed to concede twice from set pieces. Hopefully, a settled defence will rectify this in coming games.
