East Riding Senior Cup 2nd Round
Tuesday 26 November 2013
Hall Road Rangers 0 North Ferriby United 2
Scorers: NFU: Danny Hone 55; Steve Gardner 63
A much-changed Ferriby side eased in to the third round of the East Riding Senior Cup with a comfortable win against Hall Road Rangers. The Villagers gave a debut to ex-Hull City player Tyler collision. Former Ferriby player was signed on loan from Frickley Athletic for the game.
A heavy and uneven pitch made it difficult for both sides to play fluent football but Ferriby adapted better and their experience, skill and fitness were telling factors in the win.
Rangers battled well throughout the game and gave Ferriby little time to dwell on the ball. However, Rangers offered little threat when they attacked and Ferriby keeper Antoni Pecora had only one save to make all night.
Rangers almost took the lead in the first minute but home keeper Ryan Ramsden dived to turn Ben Hunter’s free-kick round the post. Rangers responded with a header that went straight to Pecora.
Ferriby took control of the game and saw a succession of shots blocked, saved or go narrowly wide. Louis Bruce, in particular, was unfortunate not to score. Tim Taylor, playing as a striker rather than in his usual wide position, was proving a handful for Rangers with his control.
Rangers hassled and harried Ferriby in midfield so passes often had to be hurried.
Ferriby should have taken the lead after 41 minutes. Gardner was fouled by Ben Kinsley in the area. Ryan Kendall’s penalty was going just inside the post but Ramsden did well to turn the ball round the post at full stretch.
Rangers’ attacks were few and they posed no serious threat to Ferriby whose defence was well in control.
The second-half followed a similar pattern to the first. Rangers continued to hassle and harry Ferriby whilst offering little threat themselves. Ferriby finally took the lead after 55 minutes when Danny hone headed home Ben Hunter’s right-wing corner.
The game was settled eight minutes later when Gardner fired home an angled shot. The Villagers continued to control and dominate the game and, once again, fired in a succession of shots. Danny Clarke was particularly unlucky as he saw two shots cleared off the line. His second shot appeared to have crossed the line before Ramsden clawed it away.
Rangers had a short spell of pressure shortly before the end of the game but could not create a scoring opportunity.
Ferriby Manager Billy Heath was pleased with the win, “We controlled the game and probably should have won by a bigger margin. It was a good opportunity to give pitch-time to some of the players in the squad.”
