Frickley Athletic 1 North Ferriby United 3
Ryan Williams 54 Danny Emerton 14; Nathan Jarman 22; Tom Denton 32
This was a vastly improved performance from Ferriby compared to the one they gave at Goole on Tuesday. The Villagers were always in control an had the game sewn-up by half-time.
Danny Emerton and Dan Clayton caused no end of problems for Frickley as they marauded down both wings in the first-half. Jon D’Laryea and Liam King controlled the midfield and Antoni Pecora and his back four of Dean Lisles, Gregg Anderson, Mark Grey and Nathan Peat were strong and determined. Up-front, Tom Denton and Nathan Jarman were a regular threat.
Jarman and Denton both went close to scoring before Ferriby took the lead after 14 minutes. Danny Emerton finished his 35-yard run with an unstoppable shot from 18 yards that gave keeper Ben Simpson no chance.
Ferriby doubled their lead after 22 minutes. Liam King’s volley was handled by Aaron Joseph in the area. Jarman’s penalty was pushed away by Simpson but Jarman was first to the ball to slide it home.
The Villagers sealed the game 10 minutes later. Dan Clayton’s run down the left saw him cross low to the far post where Denton tapped-in from close-range.
Frickley had Benson to thank for only being three down at the interval. The keeper made three good saves, twice from Emerton and once from Denton.
Frickley managed one blocked shot and one cross along the six-yard box that was not attacked by any Frickley player.
the second-half saw Ferriby have the greater possession but they threatened less often than in the first. To some extent, it was a case of closing-out the game and avoiding injuries ahead of next week’s Vanarama Conference North opener at Stockport County.
Frickley pulled a goal back after 54 minutes when Danny South’s pass found Ryan Williams who scored from 16 yards.
Pecora did well to tip over a Williams’ drive then Matt Knowles fired wide.
Ferriby had few clear opportunities in the second-half. Benson saved well from a Russ Fry header and Clayton saw a shot blocked.
Once again, manager Billy Heath rang the changes to give his players to both stake a claim for next Saturday’s opener and also to develop match fitness.
This was a professional performance for Ferriby and was a good ay to finish their pre-season games.
