Eastwood Town v North Ferriby United
Evostik Northern Premier League Premier Division
Saturday 29 December 2012 KO 3.00 pm
League leaders Ferriby travel to Eastwood Town on Saturday looking for three points to ensure they enter the New Year at the top of the table.
Eastwood are currently bottom of the table and look doomed to relegation unless they can find some form and inspiration.
The Boxing Day win at Frickley showed the character and determination that exists in the current Ferriby squad. The match was played in persistent heavy rain ad underfoot conditions got worse as the game went on.
Ferriby built a 2-0 lead but Frickley drew level. Their second was a penalty which resulted in keeper Adam Nicklin being sent off leaving Ferriby to play the last 20 minutes with 10 men.
Manager Billy Heath immediately pulled-off Ryan Williams to allow Antoni Pecora togo in goal. It cannot have been easy to come in such conditions but he was alert to Frickley's attacks To their credit, Ferriby dug deep and some solid defending kept Frickley at bay.
Ryan Kendall's late goal gave Ferriby a win that they deserved on the day as they adapted somewhat better to the conditions.
Heath commented "Frickley is never an easy place to go to and get a result and this was a tremendous win. The players showed a great spirit and character to win in difficult circumstances. They reacted positively to losing a two goal and Adam's sending-off but they took the game to Frickley in the final ten minutes."
Gregg Anderson is unavailable. The only other doubt is Danny Clarke who was a late absentee due to illness on Boxing Day. Steve Gardner returned to the squad at Frickley following a long lay-off through injury but did not play. Gary Bradshaw came on as a substitute just before the end.
Ferriby squad: Adam Nicklin, Antoni Pecora, Steve Gardner, Steve Ridley, Paul Foot, Dean Lisles, Mark Gray, Nathan Peat, Liam King, Russell Fry, Danny Clarke, Chris Bolder, Ryan Williams, Anthony Wilson, Ryan Kendall, Gary Bradshaw, Ben Hunter
