Doodson Sport League Challenge Cup 5th Round
Eastwood Town 0 North Ferriby United 5
This was a comprehensive win from a Ferriby side that showed a number of player and positional changes to last Saturday.
The win put holders Ferriby into the semi-finals as they attempt to become only the third club to retain the League Cup.
The Villagers started brightly and Louis Bruce's long throw was headed by Mark Gray to home keeper Richard Stainsby.
Ferriby opened the scoring after only three minutes. Stainsby threw the ball out to a defender who was disposed by Paul Robson who calmly lobbed the keeper for a well-taken goal.
The rest of the half was mainly one way traffic as Ferriby controlled the game. Ferriby created a number of chances with Bradshaw, Chris Bolder and Louis Bruce all going close.
The second goal finally came on the stroke of half-time. Stainsby made a double save from Bradshaw and Robson before Bradshaw fired home at the third attempt. It was no more than Ferriby deserved.
Eastwood managed only two headed attempts on goal as they found it difficult to create any chances against a solid Ferriby defence.
The second-half was even more one-sided. Eastwood did not manage a single shot on goal as Ferriby controlled midfield and limited the home side to long balls and crosses that were comfortably dealt with by the defence.
Ollie Banks, Danny Clarke, Ryan Williams and Bradshaw all went close before the third goal came after 72 minutes. Clarke was bundled over in the area by Gary Breach and banks sent Stainsby the wrong way from the penalty spot.
It was no surprise when Bradshaw scored Ferriby's fourth after 75 minutes. A mistake by the central defenders allowed Bradshaw to run between them and slide the ball past Stainsby.
Within a minute Bradshaw had completed his hat-trick after another defensive mix-up allowed him to slide the ball in from close range again. Ferriby closed-out the game in the final 15 minutes.
Manager Billy Heath commented, "I was pleased with the result and the fact that we have reached the semi-final. It was a very good all-round team performance on a difficult pitch. All the players played well and I was particularly pleased with the performances of Louis Bruce and Louis Kirk. It was a bonus to pick-up no more injuries."
