Peter Swales Shield
Chester City v North Ferriby United
Saturday 4 August. KO 3.00 pm
Ferriby continue their pre-season preparations when travel to last season's Evostik NPL Champions Chester City on Saturday. The teams will be competing for the Peter Swales Shield which is an annual fixture between the League Champions and League Cup winners.
Manager Billy Heath has been able to play his full squad in the earlier pre-season matches but Saturday's match will be played as a usual competitive fixture so he will only be able to name a 16-man squad for the match.
Heath was pleased with Wednesday's 1-1 draw with Blue Square Bet conference side Grimsby Town. This was probably the team's best pre-season performance. Ferriby had the better chances and were a little unfortunate not to have won the game. Grimsby's goal came very much against the run of play but Ferriby drew level through a stunning strike by Neil Stevens.
Saturday's match will be a good measure of the progress that Heath's Ferriby are making. Chester won the title quite easily last season and Ferriby struggled in their matches against them.
The Villagers pre-season form has been encouraging and they certainly seem sharper than have at this stage in previous seasons. Heath and his Assistant Manager, Mark Carroll, are well aware of the need to start the league season well. They will be looking for a competitive performance at Chester.
Ferriby squad: Adam Nicklin, Antoni Pecora, James Williams, Steve Gardner, Nathan Peat, Paul Foot, Gregg Anderson, Sam Belcher, Chris Bolder, Gary Bradshaw, Russell Fry, Lee Morris, Danny Clarke, Chris White, Steve Ridley, Ben Hunter, Mark Gray, Chris Hall, Jack Muldoon, Neil Stevens, Liam King, Ryan Kendall, Timothy Taylor
Admission prices have been reduced to £5 (£3 concessions) and £1 for under-16s.
