Bridlington Town 1 North Ferriby United 1
Scorers: NFU: Curtis Bateson 14
Bridlington: Brett Agnew 11; Andy Norfolk 75
The Villagers could not really complain about the result. They had the better of the first-half and could have been two or three goals in front rather than level at the interval.
Ferriby had most of the possession and territory in the first-half. However, it was Bridlington who took the lead after 11 minutes with the first on-target attempt from either side. Brad Agnew fired in a cross shot from the left that found the net.
The Villagers first on-target brought the equaliser after 14 minutes. Curtis Bateson drilled a low shot in to the goal via the inside of the post.
the remainder of the half largely belonged to Ferriby. The Villagers went close on four occasions. Connor Oliver had a shot blocked, mark gray headed narrowly wide, Bateson saw a cross-shot go narrowly wide and Danny Emerton drew a save from home keeper James Hitchcock. The Villagers were left to rue the missed chances.
Ferriby’s second-half performance was far from convincing. It lacked any real cohesion and this allowed Bridlington to have greater territorial possession.
Chances were few from either side. Andy Norfolk scored a deserved winner for Bridlington after 75 minutes, powering in a header.
Ferriby never really looked like getting an equaliser. The nearest they came was a Ryan Kendall shot that grazed the cross-bar.
It will be interesting to see how many of today’s triallists are offered terms for the coming season. With only two pre-season games left, Housham, and his assistant Darryn Stamp, will need to be fielding squads that are likely to start the National league game against Braintree on 6 August.
