Vanarama Conference North
Barrow v North Ferriby United
Tuesday 14th April 2015 ; KO 7.45 pm
Ferriby’s make the long trip to Cumbria to face Title hopefuls Barrow on Tuesday. They are likely to face their former striker Anthony Wilson in what is going to be a very challenging match.
The reverse league fixture at the Eon Visual Media Stadium in September resulted in a 2-2 draw with Nathan Jarman and Danny Emerton netting for The Villagers.
Ferriby will want to put their last three league games behind them after conceding twelve goals in the three defeats. The Villagers are usually very strong defensively but they have conceded some “soft” goals in the last three games.
Saturday’s home defeat to Colwyn was particularly galling. The Villagers should have been well ahead by half-time but squandered chances and had two goals disallowed. A soft goal allowed Bay to take an early lead but Ferriby were 2-1 ahead by half-time and looked good for the win.
However, their second-half display was dismal as they offered absolutely no threat to Colwyn’s goal. It could be tempting to blame the wind which blew down the pitch throughout the game but that would only hide The Villagers’ inability to get the ball on the floor in the second-half and play down the wings.
Ferriby will obviously have to up their game against Barrow on Tuesday.
Manager Billy Heath commented, “We suffered for some poor defending against Colwyn. We were very poor in the second-half. We should have had the game won by half-time and we paid the penalty for missed chances.
“We need to lift our performance against Barrow if we are going to finish the season with some good results.”
Adam Nicklin is injured and will miss the rest of the season. Liam King and Ryan Kendall are injury doubts. Danny Emerton remains in the squad after making a surprise return from injury last Saturday.
