Vanarama National League
Alfreton Town v North Ferriby
Alfreton Town 0
North Ferriby United 1
Liam King 14
Ferriby certainly deserved this win but, as on Saturday against Boston, they had to sustain a final 15 minutes pressure from the opposition.
The first-half was rather one-sided with Ferriby enjoying most of the territory and possession. However, they were finding it difficult to create opportunities.
Despite that, it was no surprise when they went ahead after 14 minutes. Liam King curled a free-kick round the wall and inside matt Duke’s right-hand post. It was no more than Ferriby deserved.
Ferriby pressed Alfreton in every area of the field and the home side could not get any sort of rhythm.
Alfreton responded immediately but Joe Leesley’s shot went straight to Ferriby keeper tom Nicholson.
Ferriby continued in control of the game and Danny Emerton and Danny Clarke both had shots blocked.
At the other end, Nicholson did well to come out and block Sam Jones as he threatened to burst through.
King then did well to block Jones in the act of shooting, the ball going out for a corner.
Clarke came close to doubling the lead on 44 minutes but Duke managed to claw away the ball.
The second-half was more even in terms of possession and territory but chances were still few and far between. Town did not actually have a shot on target throughout though a number of shots were off-target. The closest they came was a shot from Jones that went narrowly wide after he had made a good run.
Ferriby were also a little shot-shy. Emerton was desperately unlucky to see a 20 yard drive bounce off the bar with Duke well-beaten.
Ferriby defended well as Town increased the pressure in the final 15 minutes. The home side was restricted to shooting from distance and putting high balls in to the area but Ferriby were strong and determined to hold on to the points.
The win puts The Villagers in fifth place in the Vanarama National League North.
Manager Billy Heath commented,
“ It was a hard-fought game. We were under lot of pressure in the second-half but Tom Nicholson and the back-four played extremely well. Getting a clean sheet is bonus.
“All the team worked hard. It was a fantastic away performance. We were very professional the way we went about our game tonight.”
