AFC Fylde 2-3 North Ferriby United
Vanarama National League North
NFU – Hotte 41 mins, King, 43 mins, Denton 55 mins.
AFC Fylde – Charles 45 mins, Finley 82 mins
An outstanding away performance saw the Villagers take three points from the battle of the league’s second and third placed teams as they won at Fylde for the first time in their history.
Manager Billy Heath hailed the teams performance,
“That was a magnificent display from start to finish. The first half was as good an away display as we have produced all season. The lads were tremendous and worked extremely hard to score three goals against a very good side.”
Hard work, strong defending and good finishing were at the heart of North Ferriby’s win. The energetic running Liam King, Danny Hone’s strong defending and Tom Denton’s hold up play and heading were the highlights of a great team effort.
A closely contested game sparked to life in the 38th minute, Fylde’s Rowe appeared to get away with a clear hand ball before setting up the pacey Hardy who fired over from a good position. The hosts were made to pay for that miss when Ferriby took the lead in the 41st minute. Middleton’s long throw was flicked on by Denton, it fell for Hotte who swept the ball into the net. The Villager’s second goal soon followed good work on the left hand side by Wayne Brooksby saw him put in an excellent cross which Liam King headed in. Fylde then pulled a goal back in stoppage time at the end of the first half when the dangerous Charles latched onto a through ball and finished well.
The second half started much as the first half a very even contest, Fylde had a great chance to level when a Ben Middleton pass was intercepted by Rowe who raced clear, great defensive work completed by an Ash Palmer block saw the ball cleared, almost immediately Ferriby restored their two goal advantage. Brooksby and Wilde linked up on the left before Wilde’s excellent cross was met by Denton who headed powerfully into the net in the 55th minute.
Fylde pressed hard to get back into the game, Hone cleared off the line but Ferriby continued to create opportunities Denton headed Wilde’s free kick just wide.
The hosts then reduced the arrears on 82 minutes when Finley found space outside the area and fired into the left hand corner from 25 yards. A late Fylde rally saw Hughes cut in and shoot, Nicklin’s save fell to Rowe who turned the ball in but the linesman’s flag came to the rescue to give Ferriby a deserved three points.
